چکیده

An exactly solvable model is used to investigate the assumptions behind color transparency. 1 INTRODUCTION Color transparency (CT) is the anomalously high transparency of the nucleus to nucle-ons in quasi-elastic high-momentum transfer nuclear processes, measured with resolution good enough to insure that no " extra " pions are produced. This means that the ab-sorptive nuclear optical potential representing initial and final state interactions plays no role in such reactions. Color transparency is under active investigation with experiments performed at BNL [1], SLAC [2] and ongoing work at BNL [3] and experiments proposed at CEBAF. The low-temperature structure of AC 60 (A=K, Rb) is an ordered array of polymerized C 60 chains, with magnetic properties that suggest a non-metallic ground state. We study the paramagnetic state of this phase using first-principles electronic-structure methods, and examine the magnetic fluctuations around this state using a model Hamiltonian. The electronic and magnetic properties of even this...

The shell structure of magic nuclei far from stability is discussed in terms of the self-consistent spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. In particular, the sensitivity of the shell-gap sizes and the two-neutron separation energies to the choice of particle-hole and particle-particle components of the effective interaction is investigated.

New exact upper and lower bounds are derived on the spectrum of the square of the hermitian Wilson Dirac operator. It is hoped that the derivations and the results will be of help in the search for ways to reduce the cost of simulations using the overlap Dirac operator.
